Health & Safety training

Poor manual handling is one of the leading causes of workplace injury. The Manual Handling Regulations give a general requirement that employees must be trained and include the use of any equipment their employer provides to handle loads safely.

Course duration: ½ day

Course content:

  • Understanding of the dangers of working in the industry.
  • Responsibilities as an operative.
  • Causes of manual handling injuries.
  • Effects of static loading and the risks involved in team lifting.
  • Formal and dynamic risk assessments.
  • Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for manual handling operations.
  • Necessary safety checks at the work area.
  • Describe and demonstrate safe handling techniques.

Aimed at anyone who uses abrasive wheels or employs people who use abrasive wheels as part of their work. Applications range from hand grinding to disc cutting.

Course duration: ½  - 1 day

Course content:

  • Legal requirements and responsibilities for the safe use of abrasive wheels
  • Potential hazards and reasonable foreseeable risks
  • Appropriate machinery and PPE required for the work being undertaken
  • Pre-use checks
  • Marking, storage, handling and transportation of abrasive wheels and any ancillary equipment
  • Practical exercise

All working at height situations are covered by health and safety legislation. Our training covers topics including the dangers of working at height, the regulations, the hierarchy of controls, assessing risk and much more.

Fire wardens are employees trained to assist in emergency fire evacuation procedures at businesses and other organisations. It is a legal obligation that workplaces must have a sufficient number of fire marshals to deal with fire emergencies. Current legislation applies to all workplaces regardless of the number of employees and requires employers to provide adequate training in fire awareness for all members of their staff.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, applies to all workplaces regardless of the number of employees and requires employers to provide adequate training in fire awareness for all members of their staff. Attending this course is a cost effective way for employers to fulfil their legal obligation to provide their employees with the necessary understanding of fire awareness.

A course that is tailored to exactly what you require for your business to enable key personnel to conduct risk assessments for your workplace.  Using theoretical and practical exercises during the one day course will allow the candidate to develop their skills for identifying risks and hazards.

This course is aimed at anyone who is exposed to Substances Hazardous to Health at work, as well as line managers with responsibility for such people. It teaches an awareness of these various substances and how to work safely with them.

  • Storage and control measures
  • Welfare facilities

By training on your plant equipment at your site, we enable candidates to experience real life situations during training enabling them to become more competent in their day to day operation of the equipment. 

Courses are offered from experienced operator tests for competent candidates who have previous experience on the equipment but no evidence of formal training, through to novice ,refresher or conversion. Training is accredited through NPORS or if accreditation is not required then we can certify through our non-accredited in-house certification.

Course duration: 1 - 5 days

Forklift training is conducted at your site and on your equipment allowing your employees to gain valuable skills from being taught within their work environment, experiencing workplace hazards within the safety of the learning environment. This is far more beneficial to creating safe and competent operators than learning within a sterile training centre environment. 

Courses are offered from novice through to refresher, conversion or experienced operator tests and Forklift training can be accredited by NPORS or if accreditation is not required then we can certify through our non-accredited in-house certification.

Course duration: 1 - 5 days

By training on your plant equipment at your site, we enable candidates to experience real life situations during training enabling them to become more competent in their day to day operation of the equipment.

  • Selection and maintenance of PPE
  • Safety checks - including stop blocks and tipping areas
  • Signs and signals, approved hand signals and different forms of communication
  • Setting up exclusion zones fo reloading / unloading
  • Practical exercise in guiding machinery forwards and in reverse,  including confined space and “blind” areas
  • Environmental considerations 
  • End of shift, shut down and parking procedures

A Slinger Signaller's role is to connect lifting accessories to the hook of the lifting equipment and provide clear instructions in the form of signals/verbal communication to the crane operator whilst guiding a travelling load from the lifting point to the landing point. Conduction of the training at your site and on your equipment allows for relevant job specific experience alongside meeting the legal requirements of the training. 

Course duration: 1-2 days

  • Responsibilities and dangers of Slinger / Signaller operation
  • Identification and maintenance of relevant PPE
  • Location, identification and explanation of different types of equipment and accessories
  • Basic construction, uses, applications and their functions of equipment and accessories
  • Extraction and interpretation of information on relevant documents
  • Pre-uses checks and identification of non-serviceable items
  • Procedures for placing non-serviceable items out -of-service
  • Carry out all out-of-service and securing procedures
  • Calculations of estimated weights of loads and understanding of centre of gravity
  • Exclusion zones, emergency actions and identification of overhead hazards
  • Practical exercise in securing various loads to a hook using relevant lifting accessories
  • Practical exercise in ensuring load balance, security and integrity
  • Practical exercise in selecting appropriate lifting accessories for a range of loads
  • Practical exercise in directing and guiding movements of loads
  • Environmental considerations

This course is designed to train delegates in methods of instructing and training for staff within their workplace. Successful candidates will be able to offer instruction and training to employees within their workplace for subjects to which they can prove personal competence. They can then issue in-house certification and authority to operate as appropriate to their working environments and company policies. Successful candidates will also be able to carry out risk assessments for any mechanical handling machines to which they are sufficiently proficient within their working environment.
